A Cheaper Way to Edit Your Photos

There’s a new photo editing software that’s ultimately at par with Adobe Photoshop, but with a less hefty price. It’s the Corel Paintshop Pro X5. The software offers many tools that are as advanced as Photoshop while making it a relatively easy photo-editing experience for beginners.

The photo editing of Corel has three main modes that’s located right at the top of the screen: Adjust, Edit and Manage. The Adjust mode allows you to do quick editing such as photo cropping, colour manipulation and brightness and contrast adjustment.

On the other hand, using the “Instant Effects” feature at the Manage mode, you can rapidly apply tons of special effects to pictures including landscape, portrait, film style, artistic and customized or “user-defined” photo effects.

If you want to take photo editing to a whole new level, you can use the “Edit mode” of Corel Paintshop Pro X5 with an interface and tools exactly like Adobe Photoshop. There’s the Magic Wand, layers, tilting, freehand drawing and shape tools. The Magic Wand, in particular, can be very handy as it allows you to specifically select parts of an irregularly shaped object in an image.

The Ultimate edition of the Corel Paintshop Pro X5 is incorporated with three superior filters including FaceFilter Studio 2 (which allows you to manually alter facial expressions of people in a picture), NIK Color Efex Pro 3 and Ultimative Creative Collection.

On the flip side, there have been reviews that indicate that this version of Corel has crashed when tested under DCR. Furthermore, unlike Adobe Photoshop, Corel only supports Windows.

To wrap this up, Corel Paintshop Pro X5  proves to be a software that can be as valuable to graphic artists and to those who have knack for photo editing. The suggested retail price of the software is only $99.99, which is a whole lot cheaper than Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite which is priced at $699.
